Not so free weekend and Gganu breakfasts

This was written on and off during the weekend to be posted early Monday to give some space to the long winded health article. ;).
Saturday morning started with Yohwang rushing to buy coconut milk at the wet market and Mokyang rushing to her kitchen to kukus (steam) nasi dagang immediately after Suboh (dawn)..my ..the steamers leaked steam.. And have to be changed 3 times as the ' center ' part of nasi dagang was not properly cooked! The tuna was steamed on Friday morning and has been cooked to Gganu gulai ikan aya in the late evening of the same day. The results.. Our Saturday breakfast ..voila!

Nasi Dagang

Saturday afternoon saw us in Branang still trying to fix my not so good shoulder..have to abandon the plan to go and search for that Bangi golf club due to time constraint.. My geophysicist , angling, fisherman friend will be holding his wedding reception there in the evening. We rushed back to our place, buy some sardine fish (ikan selayang) and went home to bathe and change before rushing back to Bangi.. Went to Bangi and failed to find the place although we circle the area for more than one hour and asked three guys for direction ;(((. Have to abandon the wedding reception plan and on reaching our home, mokwang quietly went to the kitchen to steam 'ikan selayang' . Then came the sticky part of preparing laksam.. Another steaming process .. Steaming the rice powder.. Ah time consuming... The steamed ikan selayang was deboned, blended to paste and will be cooked with santan.
So when the morning came Mokwang heated the kuah laksam and chopped the laksam into small morsels and voila... our Sunday breakfast..

Laksam

After breakfast.. We went to wet market and supermarket for our weekly food supplies before attending another wedding reception in Melawati. The evening saw us in Mahbob Restaurant in Bangsar after some 20 days abstaining ourselves from mamak food... Oh Mokwang has managed to cook some laksa noodle .. Looks like another Gganu food - laksa Gganu style for Monday breakfast.. No picture this time to busy trying to reach office in time in the morning rain.

Have a good productive week.

Light-hearted day

I felt light-hearted this morning.. partly due to the fact that my better half has served ketupat pulut goreng (fried "glutinous rice in palas leaf") and serunding daging (meat floss bought from our Puan Zafar in Kerteh) for breakfast this morning. She has been toiling with daun palas since yesterday afternoon preparing our family favourite Trengganu fare.. ah never mind the cholesterol ;)

By the way, I heard from my Taiping friend today.. that Perak also have the same ketupat..

On reaching the office, I noticed a good friend (that I missed his presence :)) has came back to office after 3 weeks leave. We have a briefing on the drilling progress, then came the good news, our hydrocarbon gas sample has been analyzed and the corrosive carbon dioxide content found to be well below 10% . We expect that ample volume of gas that can be produced.. augurs well for our country’s electricity suppliers ;).
You probably have read that some of them have threaten to increase the electricity cost/tariff if we cannot meet their gas demand ;((

We will conduct some test soon and hopefully we can call it a day in 10 days time.

Like Ninot said.. It is time to smell the flowers.

P.s. The highlight of the day ..I contacted Ninot and we have a good chat .. and chatting with fellow blogger always make me more than light-hearted ;)

Have a good weekend..

Pukat buruk, serawa durian dan gulai ayam

Ayoh Wang bbuke kue pende petang ning..? yohteh asked in his comment in my last posting. So one can say that this post has been inspired by yohteh

On Saturday we have nasi Dagang and serikaya(made of chicken or duck eggs, brown sugar from coconut and santan) for iftar and sahur as well. Weekends are the time when Mok Wang applies most of her culinary skill.. trying to appease her two children who will be at home then... on weekdays the son went to MMU in Cyberjaya to study and stayed at his cousin's place.

On Sunday we still have the left over serikaya and nasi Dagang.. but on the table we do have pukat buruk ("old fishing net" made of rice flour... I think) accompanied by serawa durian ( made of santan, sugar, water and durian flesh)for our son who has acquired more Trengganu taste and chicken curry for our daughter who has acquired less Trengganu taste.

Our son was born in Dungun, Trengganu while his younger sister was delivered in Ampang Puteri. At times I do wonder if there is any correlation of the food they prefer and their place of birth.

Anyone care to share their observation?

May Ramadhan brings (this blog's readers that performed fast) Allah's pleasure and His Maghfirah.

Have a nice day.
