Honey

Both the holy Qur'an and Hadith refer to honey as a healer of disease.

'Your Lord revealed to the honeybee: make home in the hills, on the trees and in the structures they raise' 016:068
'Then eat all the fruits, then go along the pathways of your Lord create easy for you, from their bellies come a drink of varying colours, in which there is cure for mankind. Verily in that there is Sign for people who ponders'. 016:069

In addition, the Prophet (PBUH) said:

'Honey is a remedy for every illness and the Qur'an is a remedy for all illness of the mind, therefore I recommend to you both remedies, the Qur'an and honey.' (Bukhari)

The above hadith or Tradition and the benefit of honey can be read from islamicsites.com/honey.asp by Dr. Monzur Ahmed.

Honey used to be a must buy item whenever I have a chance to go and see my late father in KT. I normally buy about ten bottles of honey and whenever he still have some bottles honey to spare he asked me to bring a bottle back to KL for my own consumption. He normally add two tablespoons of honey to a small glass of 'cool boiled water', he stirs up the mixture and consumes it twice a day once in the morning and once in the evening. The other must buy item is 'minyak afiat' , an ointment that he used to massage himself before and after sleep.

One fine day, my brother-in- law came to our house in search of pure honey. I was in Sudan then and we have a few bottles of honey that I brought back from Sudan. He took the honey I bought from Trengganu and also those from Sudan. BIL told us later that one of his nieces got a weird sickness.. The boy's stomach got swollen in the evening ( but not any other time though) after he played in one awkward corner of a play-ground in Klang. After many unsuccessful medical treatments, my BIL was recommended to see a Tabligh guy who originates from Middle East in Masjid India here in KL. The guy asked for pure honey as the only ingredient for him to try to cure the boy's sickness.

BIL has bought many bottles of honey from Klang and KL markets but the tabligh guy told him that those honey were not pure enough for him to use. When he brought the many bottles of honey from my house.. The guy said the honey I normally bought in KT for my late father was good enough. We were glad to note that the boy weird sickness has been cured and the honey I bought in KT received some sort of authentification ;)

Now that my father is no longer around I still buy ten bottles of honey from KT once in a blue moon for my own consumption. Sometime I sold some bottles of the honey to my friends who knew about its quality and of late one of my friend paid better price than what I asked him to pay ... saying that it not fair for him to buy the honey at such a low price..;).

I used to sell kain batik and sutera some fifteen years ago to top up the payment of my car installment. I was at time scolded by my siblings for being so 'tamak' or greedy but honestly it was not so much for money now.. It is just a small past time.. I told them I can not even expect to pay a small portion of fuel cost of travelling to KT from KL from the sale of few bottles of honey ;)..

I believe this is my last entry for 2011 and I sincerely want to ask for forgiveness from my dear blog readers and those blogs owners that I commented for any unpleasantness felt from any of my actions..

Wishing you a Happy New Year with or without a bang from Ayoh Wang and family.
May the new year bring the blessing of Our Creator, His Forgiveness and His Pleasure.

yohwang, madu yg paling sedap pernah saya rasa ialah madu yemen, yang kami beli semasa buat haji tahun 2008. we bought it from one of our students yg mengaji di mesir (musim haji kebanyakan students ni turun ke makkah untuk berniaga & bertugas jadi tour guides dsb). i hv tried many different types of honey since, tapi masih tidak dapat menandingi madu yemen.

kami juga ucapkan selamat tahun baru kepada yogwang sekeluarga.. semoga Allah berkati sentiasa..

Salam tahun baru to you too Oldstock,
Come to think of it, honey in Malay can mean a noun not particularly loved by ladies;).
I know that 2012 is a leap year. i.e. it have 365 days and your commented a day before the new year. Argh..my mathematical mind trying to reason out your 366 days ..
I am honoured to know that you think meeting me in blogosphere is nice... Hopefully our path will cross soon and we will be acquaintance(if not friend) in real life too..:)

Ezza dearest,
Honestly I have been buying many madu yang tak asli. As the madu I have now has been authenticated .. To test for authentic honey.. 1. No ant will not go into the bottle of honey .. 2. The honey will not be frozen in refrigerator.. So they said..
As one of the most important item in Muslim medication it is imperative that we should have one available.. Did you know that six biggest hospitals in Israel and one German doctor in Germany use honey and habbatusSauda as main important medicine for their patients..
They are five things that are recommended.. Or said to be recommended by our Propher SAW.. Honey, habbatussauda.. Badam, kismis.. Air zamzam...
ramai orang bukan Islam yakin dengan perkara ini .... Tapi kita muslim ada yang langsung tak yakin muahahaha..
Kalau hendak saya boleh jual pada Ezza Dua botol RM 50... Kita jumpa di klang No talipon Ezza dah hilang .. Hp saya telah tenggelam dek washing machine .. Call me at 0199819405. Kalau mahu.. Tapi ada 5 botol aja masa nie.. Ha ha ha

Salam tahun baru to Hajjah Kama sekeluarga..
Kawan saya paid about RM1000 for a kilo of Yemen's honey at a market there a few years ago .. Then he bought a bottle of honey from me.. He paid me higher than my selling price for he is the one who asked me to get the honey ..
He specifically mentioned that the only honey that he find effective ( I did not ask for what) is that yemen honey and the one he bought from me.. He took two bottles the other day and also wanted to sponsor the other two friends who refuse to have anything to do with honey..ha ha ha..
Rasa madu yemen and especially that USD1000 a kilo Hadralmaut honey is of course many many class higher than my RM 25 a bottle honey.. Bien sur ha ha ha.. Ada berani?

salaam to Abang Hassan sekeluarga..
Pandailah botol madu pun dikatakan sample minyak.. Agaknya kelabu mata pasal baca blog waktu dinihari ha ha ha .
InsyaAllah saya akan keKkalang Maras secepat mungkin untuk belajar buat jam marmalade..

i never know if the honey i got is pure or no. have a couple of bottles at home and been taking it like some medicine every morning.

but i do like honey from different places. sometimes they have a hint of some fruit here n there. i find that awesome.

Wan Sharif said...

Dear The Tea Drinker,
Already answered the two tests for honey in my response to Ezza's comments above.
Come to think of it.. Hint of some fruits in honey is already answered by the Quranic verses in the early part of this entry..
Stay easy sahabat.. May The new year find you in good health and bring you Allah's pleasure .

The boy's sickness reminds me of Tina*.
She is supposed to have her honey supplement every day to rid of negativity in her stomach. (Currently, she's consuming the one from Yemen).
But honey, being tibbin nabawi (other t.n. too), is what she finds it hard to swallow - To her, it smells urine, and has a peculiar aftertaste.

Salam Wan Sharif

I would consume honey only when coaxed, although I know the khasiat. the whole family loves honey but I somehow do not quite fancy the taste.

I guess too late for new year wishes :) May 2012 brings us more blessings and peace.

Wan Sharif said...

Salam Ummie,
Heard from my Chinese colleague ..his late grandma used to gave him honey for stomach problem and other minor ailments. There are some other honey that might suit her taste but honestly I bought a few bottles from South Sudan and like my friends who did the same.. The honey we thought very highly of have turned to some unconsumable stuff after a few years of storage.. Looks like that those honey are not pure honey..

Wan Sharif said...

Wa'alaikumussalam Noir,
Ummm interesting case you have there.. You do not quite like something that you know is good for you;) Maybe there are some exported and a lil bit expensive honey in fancy supermarts that may be suitable to your fancy?..
Thank you for you kind wish.. To me it is never late to kindly doa for friends:))) .
So may You and yours be blessed with Allah's Pleasure, His Forgiveness and his Rahmah/Barokah sokmo sokmo.

Salam Ayoh Wang,

Alhamdulillah that your BIL's niece has gotten better.

btw, if I go back during CNY do come over to Losong area :-)

Wan Sharif said...

In KT I go to pasar Kedai Payang... To get the honey from longtime acquaintance..;) now I also tried from supermart testing the honey by putting it in the freezer.
I am yet to decide whether I will definitely be in KT this CNY as we have a wedding reception on 22nd Jan in Kuantan and another one in Marang on 28th.. Have to save energy and time.. as age is catching up and children would like to have their say as well ;).. But how do I get to contact you .. No matter since you have my number ...Non?

Dmarie said...

I'm a big fan of honey...but it has gotten quite expensive. raw honey, that is, but I expect you are right that it is worth the expense. I wish you a Happy New Year as well. May this one be your best yet!

Wan Sharif said...

Dmarie,
There are people who said that there few hospitals and many medical practitioners used honey as the main ingredient or medication...
Thank you for your kind wish, may Our Creator gave you what you wish for me :)

Ayoh Wang,

As of today, no CNY trip back to KT for me either, so insyaAllah next time.
