Save Money

I was surprised when I was informed by my friend about his exploit today.. He wanted to buy a book and went online to check on local bookstores.. one rather very famous bookstore in KL do not have it and will order for him. As you can see below he will receive the book 3 weeks from the day he place his order and the book will cost him RM 501.23.

He then thought maybe he should check on Amazon.com site to see whether he can order the same book and get it cheaper. Below is the result oh his effort.

Putting USD 10 for postage and the total cost would be USD 82.01, conversion to Malaysian Ringgit using current rate would made him some RM 250.00 poorer should he proceed to order from Amazon.com and the book will reach him in 3 weeks.

You can see that you can order two books from amazon.com for the price of one book should you get it from local bookstore.. Hopefully my bloggers friends can find this entry useful for their future purchases.

At first, I wanted to post the above two pictures and called this entry as Wordless Wednesday.. but then I guess I am not that fashionable.. being a country bumpkin.. so they say ;)

Have a good day.

Ayoh Wang,
Leave the Wordless Wednesdays to the cats coz they have album-fuls of photos.... Anyway, a note of caution. Memang Amazon murah tapi selalu buku tak sampai. Bukan salah Amazon, tapi the books got waylaid somewhere on Malaysian soil. Kalau ada kawan2 di US, Europe or Australia, minta carikan buku tu. Selalu boleh dapat murah di second hand bookstore, kemudian bawaklah balik dalam check-in luggage. purrr....meow!

I masih tak paham..why must there be a Wordless Wednesday in the first place..ridiculous idea in my opinion..Hari Kunci Mulut is it? hehehe

Sir, kita serupa ... haha. If I remember correctly I've never done WW.

I think Cat-from-Sydney's idea is good. I've never had problems with amazon, though.

salam sejahtera, Wan Sharif

Cheqna,

Coffee Girl ,
That what actually happen to me while trying to put up this entry:).

CfS,
I will have to take you advice not to go wordless for now..
My friend has been ordering watches, camera lenses and camera parts and books.. More than 50 orders totalling to more than hundred thousand ringgit (his word) but I believe in USD is more likely.. He said orders from Korea and Japan are rather prompt while from US is rather slow.. Sometimes it reaches you only after you have lost all hope of it arriving at all.. But he has yet to lose a single order.
His advice.. Use PayPal to do your payment.. A bit more expensive.. 3% more for insurance purpose. You can get back you money pronto should your order do not reach you :)

I have tried to buy books from Amazon in UK but they would not want to send books to Malaysia. I understand it is all because of a number of losses in the post. C-f-S knows how bad our postal services are. I am still crying over the loss of books she posted from Sydney.

I have a credit card issued by Lloyds in London. For the last five years they have refused to post the card to Malaysian address, forcing me to use an address in London. They cited too many losses of cards posted to our 1Malaysia.

Now I order books from a couple of second hand books in the States. The trouble is the postage by air.

All throughout Uni days, I ordered books from DoubleDay book club, then the Science Book Club and when I came back to Malaysia, I ordered books and videos (mostly French videos like Camille Claudel, The Horsemen, The Last Metro, so many more) through The Good Book Guide and the Folio Society.

This was before Amazon.

Never had a problem. Even with not quite acceptable by 'Malaysian standards' books on Photography and folios.

Now that Amazon is so popular, I have yet to order a single book from Amazon. But I saw a couple years back, my book was available on-line!

I absolutely do not touch credit card purchases on-line

BTW Ayoh Wang, I though you would appreciate this.

Ses souffle était un parfum
Cela fait des hommes en délire

Sa peau translucide - invitant
Un promis du sensualite

Ses cheveux - un piège
Cela empêtré leur passion

Mortel.

Salam Abang Hassan,
It seems that you shared the same concern with CfS and I regret to note the loss of books she posted to you from Sydney.
I did read a lot of unpleasant reports on Malaysian exploit of credit card... We do seem to have a lot of news of bad examples from leaders from gov and private sectors.. Even tabong haji and religious department are not spared..
I do have any personal experience with buying books... I have some nasty experience with some banks.. Losing money .. Just because the account was not too active;(( resulting in my distrust in internet banking.
I guess we have to be very careful....

Ninot dearest,
Glad to note of your good experiences.. I guess you better stick to your current practice.
I have a bad experience with credit cards purchase.. I used a credit card at a reputable store in the city during a big sale.. The staff, probably temporary.. has somehow note all the necessary numbers on the card and used them to order things from Australia.. The first order for an Aussie one dollar was approved and the bank contacted me for the second order costing some tens of thousands Aussies dollar.. After that the bank advised me to remember the last four digits at the back of the card and defaces those numbers.. Not to allow the same thing to repeat.
Ah the French version of that beautiful poem you posted on your poetry block.. C'est merveilleuse et j'ai été, comme toujours, étonné de voir le résultat de vos efforts;)
