Romancing Rocks

I was busy planning this fact finding geological fieldtrip in Labuan and Bintulu from 13 July until 20 July 2012. The purpose of the trip was to collect data required for us to prepare a "Guidebook" for future fieldtrips. Although numerous fieldtrips have been conducted in these two areas, we have promised our management that this field trip would relates more to our daily work as three of us are involve on the subject matter on daily basis.

I am only showing you a few pictures of our three days stay in Labuan in this post because I thought you might get bored with too much rocks. Maybe I will put up more similar posts and pictures later.

Please note that these picture are considered an intellectual property of my friend, Mr Yap, and any use of them for any purpose is strictly prohibited. i.e. you have to get my permission to use them.

SOT,
Kita disuruh perhati kebesaranNya.. InsyaAllah banyak ayatulQuran yang mengarahkan kita.. Membawa kita kepada " maha suci Engkau.. Tidaklah Engkau ciptakan semua ini dengan sia sia".

Coffee Girl Dearest,
Ain't we thankful that we have these beautiful things to enjoy. Hopefully our greatgrandchildren still have beautiful things to appreciate. Those outcrops are fast disappearing.. Especially in Labuan as rapid development means more and wider roads may be needed and Labuan do not have much mountain to supply material for the road.. Pst.. Labuan do noy have granite..so they used sandstone and sometime siltstone to pave the road. The outcrop at Kg. Ganggarak would have been gone should its owner can be traced at the time when they wanted to expand the airport.. This I heard from the lady that stay in the neighbourhood of the outcrop ;(((.
Thank you for your kind wish and visit.

Ah beautiful photos .. They belong to my good friend, Mr. Yap, a photoghrapher extraordinaire ( in my opinion,) he spent few tens of thousand ringgit for this hobby.. For that I believed he brought more thirthy thousand worth of equipment.
May the ramadhan brings you and yours His rahmah, maghfirah and freedom from anNar...

I wonder what Dewan Bahasa do with technical names of those rocks; simply make them sound like 'produksi, hence 'prodOphiomorphasi!

Selamat Puasa dan Hari Raya Ayah Wang. Maaf zahir batin

Wan Sharif said...

Dewan Bahasa used to consult us on terms related to petroleum, geology, geophysics and whats-not..so not much problems there.. If DB still practise that..
Selamat Hari Raya kepada Bang Hassan, kakak dan anak cucu serema..
May ramadhan brings Allah's Grace, Blessing, Rahmah, Forgiveness and freedom from anNar to you and yours..
Selamat Hari Raya dan maaf zahir bathin juga dari sya..

Field trips always excite me as being in the office really suffocates me. Those are really beautiful place to be, Ayoh Wang. Looks so serene and many things to wonder.

selamat beribadah di fasa terakhir Ramadhan.

Tempat cantik budaya menarik ;) kekadang kita diizinkan untuk melihat kecantikan ciptaanNya.. kekadang tempat yang cantik tapi tak begitu menarik untuk kita.. mungkin kerana terlalu biasa.. atau mungkinkah kita kurang brsyukur.. taking things for granted maybe.
Selamat berpuasa dan Selamat Berhari raya ieda..

Actually DrSam, as a geophysicist or seismic interpreter I do not normally go to geological field trip, however much I may love outdoor life.. now that I am a contract staff the door is almost closed for me..
But by Grace of Allah.. I befriended a good geologist who have for sometimes been conducting field trips to these two locations when he was working for another O&G companies.
We got on very well and he was more or less want me to be with him on this and oncoming field trips... as coordinator or facilitator.. how blessed!
Labuan has so many beautiful beaches that are almost pristine and when we were there.. there were only tree of us and couple of fishermen who are not interested in beautiful beach either, too busy chasing the mundane things I supposed :)

Hello Mr. Wan Sharif,I am doing a project about arranging a geological field guide for NW Borneo and I might be needing some outcrops pictures and I came across your blog on Labuan's outcrop pictures which I find it helpful. I would therefore would like to ask your permission on using the photos as reference.
