THE TRUTH BEHIND “THE FOUNTAIN OF YOUTH” (updated)

I am downloading an article (under the same name) from my place of work to share with my fellow readers.

Drinking enough good quality water may improve your appearance? Because water reaches the skin last; if your body doesn't get enough water, your skin will feel the effects more than any other organ.
Water can help hydrate skin, leaving it:
♦ smoother
♦ softer
♦ more supple
(all pictures are from google)

DO NOT get dehydrated.
Dehydration occurs when your body has less water than it needs, and it is a very serious condition.
• When your body is just 1% below normal, you feel extremely thirsty..
• when you are 5% below, you will have a mild fever,
• if you are 10% low on water, you will turn blue and not able to walk!

Did you know that 45% to 75% of the human weight is actually from water and that your body's muscles are 75 percent water based? If not and this is the first time you have read this fact, then you probably should do some homework before getting to sleep tonight. As little as 1% loss of water can translate to an increase in core temperature during exercise, while if you
loose more than 7% of water, then you most probably will collapse. Thus, keeping yourself hydrated and adding at least 6 to 8 glasses of water to your daily liquid intake, can save your body from fatigue, pains and dehydration. Every individual has different water consumption requirements and it is difficult to apply a general rule. How much water you need depends on your physical weight, your level of physical activity that day and the environmental conditions. Just remember that adequate hydration is a mandatory aspect of human and animal life.

Most importantly, remember that water intake, although it comes also from other fluids and food consumption has to remain constant. Drink water every day and drink it whether you feel thirsty or not. A good tactic is to bring a water bottle with you everywhere and fill it as often as necessary. Do not judge how much water you need to drink only by examining when you are thirsty and remember to drink more than the recommended daily dose, if you are overweight, exercise or the environment you live and work is hot. Finally, avoid caffeine as much as possible, since it dehydrates your organism and do not drink water with meals; drink juice or milk instead.

Breathing 14%

Wouldn’t you want to stay healthy, look young and keep your youth inside out?
Putting mosturiser only repairs skin from the outside. If you want great skin at cellular level, water is your best bet because it greatly helps in slowing down the signs of ageing.
Constant drinking is one of the most helpful and trouble-free ways to flush away toxins and thus, delay the process of ageing. Alkaline water, in particular, penetrates deeper than ordinary water. When you want to remain youthful looking, always remember that without the proper liquid diet, all the vitamins and moisturizers will be useless. Yes, our skin may absorb them, and we will have a momentary relief because our skin will feel softer and look smoother. However, this is only a temporary solution. When everything wears off, we will look just as haggard as we originally were. The most important thing to know is how we are from the inside. If we are vigilant about the number of glasses we take each day, we will definitely notice a vast and more permanent improvement on our skin.

HERE ARE SOME BASIC METHODS TO INCREASE
YOUR WATER CONSUMPTION TO REPLACE WATER YOUR BODY LOSES:
• Drink water. Add lemon or lime. Drink non-calorie or low-calorie flavored water.
• Eat foods that have higher water content such as fruits and vegetables.
Examples are cucumbers, watermelon, other melons, lettuce, celery, grapes, oranges, colorful bell peppers, broccoli and tomatoes.
• Drink non-fat milk.
• Mix seltzer or sparkling water with small amounts of 100% juice.
• Mix ice and fruit in a blender to create a slushy, a cool and refreshing drink.• Decaffeinated tea.
• Soda and iced tea are okay every once in a while but, it is preferable to drink other liquids because soda and ice tea tend to have more calories, more sugar and caffeine in comparison to water.
• Drink water with a straw or use a water bottle.
• Keep water accessible to you at all times: in the car, at home, at your desk, on the job, order water at restaurants.

Coffee Anyone?
Consuming caffeine may be a concern because it is a diuretic and it is an ingredient in many fluids such as coffee, tea, and certain sodas. A diuretic is simply something that makes you urinate more frequently. Try to drink caffeinated beverages in moderation or consume more water with each caffeinated beverage.

STEPS TO MAKE SURE YOU ARE GETTING ENOUGH WATER
1. Don't wait till you are thirsty. When your body tells your brain you are thirsty, you are already depleted of water. Also, as you get older your body is less able to sense dehydration.
2. Know what else to drink. Milk, juice and sports drinks all count for your water intake. Even fresh fruits and vegetables contribute to your hydration.
3. Know what doesn't count. Alcohol, caffeine, and sodium can deplete your body of water. So even though liquor, soda, and coffee contain water, they don't fully contribute to the water you need each day. A good rule of thumb is to not count any beverages containing alcohol, caffeine, or sodium towards you water intake at all.
4. Drink more when you exercise. For every hour of physical activity you need 24 to 32 ounces of water, and it is better to drink it before the workout than wait till after.
5. Check your urine. An easy way to know how hydrated you are is to check the colour of your urine. The darker the color, the more water you need. If your urine is almost clear, you are fully hydrated.
6. As a last resort, you can do the maths. Your weight in pounds multiplied by .08 will give you the minimum number of cups of water you should drink a day.

Here is praying for your good health... always (Sokmo-sokmo)
Have a healthy and fruitful days ahead.

Why Is it Important to Drink Water Before You Go to Sleep?

The amount of water a person needs each day depends on body size, activity level, and local climate. Drinking too little water can cause severe consequences. The best way to drink enough water is to drink throughout the day.

When you don't drink enough water, you can become dehydrated. You can feel dizzy, nauseous, and faint. Your organs can be affected and in severe cases, organ failure may occur.

Water regulates the body's temperature. Water is lost through sweat, urination, breathing and daily activities. Infants and the elderly are especially prone to dehydration, and their water intake should be monitored.

It is important to drink water before and after, and then throughout the day. A tall glass at the start of each day is a good way to begin. Drinking the amount needed at once is not a good idea and can even be toxic.

Drinking water at night will keep the skin hydrated and supple. It will help prevent kidney stones, keep a person regular, and keep joints and muscles well-lubricated.

A tall glass of water at bedtime will reduce the risk of diseases and infections by helping flush away toxins. It is also beneficial in reducing the risk of heart disease.

You will wake up well-rested and more energized when the body is hydrated at night. Water intake at bedtime can aid in weight loss, help build muscle, burn fat, and keep the body's temperature in check. It will also help prevent a hangover.

Hi Wan Sharif, very good posting. And very true. Headaches can be caused by not enough water too.
I drink a big glass when I wake up.
And whole day, night minimum 6 to 8 cups of Chinese green tea, and water too.

Especially as Ontario's climate is dry.
Even with snow and ice.
Snowed like crazy whole of last night too. Outside all white.
Have a nice day....
Lee.

Ayoh Wang,
Do you know that cats that don't drink enough water, especially if they consume heaps of kibble, may develop renal failure? Some brands have been withdrawn from supermarket shelves because of this. So, even cats have to drink lots of water, as fresh as possible. purrr....meow!

Salam Wan, my biology or physiology class pun not this good!

With our weather and since I'm outdoor most of the time consuming plenty of water is a must for me. Esp February is a very dry month. I just posted in my blog the fact that rubber trees shed their leaves and villagers tap rubber at night.

I can certainly use some extra pointers here. Thank you.

Thank you for the tips and valuable information and a good reminder. I do not drink plain water. Like today, I have not had a drip of plain water. I had caffeinated coke for lunch. I need to make a point to drink water. I have said that to myself so many times before. Water, water, water. I'll be able to get to water and time to sit and drink when I get home today, insyaaAllah by 6. I pray I'll drink water.

Thank you Wan Sharif, and I apologise for pouring my lack of discipline to care for myself here. But just know that you have helped remind, and that is all anybody can do;)

Hi Mr. Lee
Thank you for sharing your precious experience on the subject.
Thank you also for sharing the weather in Ontario.. looks like the weather has become chaotic and unpredictable.. Prolonged snow and ice.. it is probably too cold for most Malaysian.. Don't you think so?

Wow.. now the clever cat down under is telling us that it is about the same for them.. thank you for sharing with us your precious experience on the subject.
Mm.. then again I supposed la raison d'être for the abundance of water (~75% 0f earths surface).. may be it is Almighty ways of telling us the importance of water.

Wa'alaikumussalam Grandpa..
This is a cut and paste posting.. I did not even know physiology :)).
Your observation that rubber trees shed their leaves in February is something new to me at least (ha..ha I am not that observant.. my outdoor friend normally tell me that I am as sensitive as Dinosaurs.. telling me that the reason why Dinos are now extinct..)
thank you very much for sharing your life observation.. merci bien

Ayoh Wang and Grandpa,
What you see with regards to the rubber trees is called "wintering". It's a forestry term. Not just rubber trees, there are also other tropical species that emulate their kin in the temperate zone. Also, if you hear branches breaking on their own in the forest, don't be alarmed. Some species e.g. acacia go through what we call "self pruning". Info from my Mama who once upon a time was in the forestry sector. purrrr.....meow!

Salam Ayoh Wang,

Thanks for sharing this article. I smiled from ear to ear reading this, because I love drinking plain water from morning till bedtime. I think I drink more than 8 glasses a day, esp. now when the weather here in Penang is so hot.

Anyhow, I cannot do without my one mug of nescafe each morning. Yang heran tu, bila bulan puasa boleh pulak tak minum kopi! Hehe

Now I am learning fast more forestry terms.. thankful for the chance to learn new things.. this afternoon I met a classmate who is a building developer and he wanted me to brief him the process of finding oil.. so I guess it is never too late to learn new things.
I noticed one comment under the name JournoDownUnder in recent kata kama post.. guess it might be somebody-I-know mum.

Wa'alaikumussalam Lili,
Ah at last I read somebody else (other than Mr. Lee) who is clever enough to know the value of drinking plain water.. I have to admit I am still orang gganu ..have a sweet fairy tooth or something.. I am also learning .. trying to abstain drinking other than plain water.
Pst.. I just read an article that it is good for the heart to drink warm water.. another post probably.
