A Good Story

Someone send me a cheeky story that I believed ought to be shared with fellow readers.. especially those that have been busy chasing rainbows.. Maybe this entry will sort of remind them to visit their loved one during this one week school holiday...

Photo from Uncle Google

An elderly man in Mumbai calls his son in New York and says,

'I hate to ruin your day son, but I have to tell you that your mother and I are getting a divorce; 35 years of marriage... and that much misery is enough!'

'Dad, what are you talking about?' the son screams.

'We can't stand the sight of each other any longer,' the old man says.

'We're sick of each other, and I'm sick of talking about this, so you call your sister in Hong Kong and tell her!'

Frantic, the son calls his sister, who explodes on the phone.

'Like heck they're getting divorced,' she shouts, 'I'll take care of this.'

She calls Mumbai immediately, and screams at the old man, 'You are not getting divorced. Don't do a single thing until I get there. I'm calling my brother back, and we'll both be there tomorrow. Until then , don't do a thing, DO YOU HEAR??' and she hangs up.

The old man hangs up his phone and turns to his wife.

'Okay', he says, 'It's all set. They're both coming for Deepavali and paying their own airfare!!'

Hi Mamasita,
I am glad that you think so.. we will be facing this kind of situation (InsyaAllah.. if we live long enough) and it will be difficult to get our children, grand children to visit us during festivities and even in time of our dire needs..
Hopefully we do not have to resort to this kind of trickery..

Dear Dr Sam,
Hopefully our Malay root will prevailed and our children would follow our example of taking time to visits our elders.
Should future circumstances forced us to resort to this kind of "cheekiness' we have to let our other half do the telephoning part.. as we can not say those "Divorce and Separation' words.. as marriage is such a sacred institution in Islam..

Dearest Aishah,
Here is hoping that our Islamic way of life will be observed by our offspring and we will never be accused of being sneaky parent.. (please see my other comments above to complement this comment).
The picture.. ah I think it is nice too!

Hi Mia's Mom,
You are free to remember and use it.. only do be reminded on the fact that Muslim man can not say those "Divorce and Separation' words.. as per my comment to DrSam above..

Grandpa,
I guess the situation warrant and beg for this kind of clever ruse.
Read about "Make money work for you, instead of the other way around" in you recent post..
Now that we have each other email addresses .. can you scribbled some notes on this and e mail it to me.. could always use you experience to upgrade my life..
Thank you in anticipation?!

Like the story very much. But, i would not be able to do that: no husband(yet).. Will surely think of something as sneaky as that if i have too. Nice one!

...yes, Ayoh Wang... rainbows, "danung" I called it... the two elements needed, rain and sun...
...orang tua-tua pesan: jangan tunjuk ke danung, kudung jari...

Wan Sharif said...

MCM,
Thank you for visiting my humble abode.. Thank you for a very nice comments. Hopefully you do not have to be sneaky and may we find Allah's Rahmah and Maghfirah when we need them..

Yohteh,
Somehow I always thought rainbows as ganu in gganuspeaks..
So when the name of the state was spelled in jawi(original Malay scripture) you can see it as negeri terang ganu.. (the state of bright rainbow).
Thus goes one of the old version as to how the state got its name.. as opposed to Taring Anu (someone's canine tooth). I felt the state of bright rainbow sounds many times better than state of someone's canine tooth.
Pesan orang tua ning kadang kadang boleh pakai jugok kadang kadang dok leh pakai setahbok ..
