A Mother's Little Shadow

Ah a shadowy update.. a tribute to all mothers

I read few phrases on subject of shadow from the AlQuran the other day.

Hast thou not turned thy vision to thy Lord?
How He doth prolong the shadow!
If He willed,
He could make it stationary!
then do We make the sun its guide ; 025.045!

Then We draw it in towards Ourselves,
a contraction by easy stages ;025.046

The subject of shadow reminds me of a beautiful post sent by Kiran (entitled :A Mother's Little Shadow) in one of my email-groups.

I saw a young mother
With eyes full of laughter
And two little shadows
Came following after.

Wherever she moved,
They were always right
Holding onto her skirts,
Hanging onto her chair.
Before her, behind her
-An adhesive pair.

"Don't you ever get weary
As day after day,
Your two little tagalongs
Get in your way?

She smiled as she shook
Her pretty young head,
And I'll always remember
The words that she said

"It's good to have shadows
That run when you run,
That laugh when you're happy
And hum when you hum -

For you only have shadows
When your life's filled with sun."

Ayoh Wang,

I agree with Grandpa..that is indeed beautiful.

Fancy this, when I was a little girl, I loved coining new names for myself. One being Sunshine! Years later John Denver came up with this song...'sunshine on my shoulders make me happy...' ;)

I'll share this poems with my Girl. Thanks Ayoh Wang.

Dearest Grandpa, Lili and CiS,
I was not too comfortable to take articles from internet.. but then I did not have ample time to churn out enough material worthy of sharing with my ever so kind readers..
Grandpa,
The farm surely need a lot of sunshine and way I understand it.. life on the farm is all sunshine..

Lili,
Now that is one creative activity you have of your childhood.. nostalgic

Cis,
Hopefully you do not hold too much to your mama skirt (with your claws open.. ha.. ha.. ha.. cruel laugh) *wink.

Thank you all for your appreciative and kind comments.
May Allah bless us all with life filled with sunshine

Hi Wan Sharif, very nice posting.
A mother is a person who seeing there are only four pieces of pie for five people, promptly announces she never did care for pie.

And being a full-time mother is one of the highest salaried jobs in my field, since the payment is pure love.

Re my blog posting, ha ha, yes, it's April 1st joke.
I got no daughters, but 2 sons, both boys.
Took me 1 week to plan this.
I had to hold back several earlier comments as if released would have let the kuching out of the bag, ha ha.

I have released all just now.
Its getting harder to catch my friends every year too, ha ha.
But this one I left a lot of clues, Wedding on April 1st, babies arriving April 1st.
And Sarah Palin becoming Canadian PM.....
All are jokes, except for the Federal elections. Its on now.

My previous years April 1st jokes were....
'The secret is out, my wife is pregnant'.
'Uncle Lee closing down my blog'.

As well I too was caught by friends playing an April fool's joke on me....
"Uncle, I am your daughter".
And those that have read it remembers the name 'Ramona', ha ha ha.

Sure got some hilarious comments too.
Have a nice day.
Lee.

That was really beautiful. Thank you for sharing.

And Uncle Lee's comments are just as colourful.

Hi Lee,
Like Aishah said you sure put up a colorful comment.. In Malay (Islam as well) culture, mother has always being the most revered, other than God and His prophets..
I did recall you mention about the 2 boys in your comment to my entry : 3 brothers and cigarette.. but have to go along with the crowd.. on reading more of those stuck in the airport and custom.. I have to made another comment..
Obviously you can not fool every body every year..
Take care.. in the current unpredictable weather pattern.. hopefully not too bad in Canada.

Dear Aishah,
The mail was sent to me last May.. I kept it in my file because I think it was beautiful.. although I was a bit reluctant to share what I received from internet.. I am sort of feel I should share it when I read the shadow verses.. I did googled on Islam + shadow resulting in nothing of much interest for me to share..
I felt relieved to know that you also think that it is beautiful piece of work..
May your life be filled with sunshine always..

Dear Coffee Girl,
Very glad to know you like the poem..
I felt funny to love poem on "mother" topic.. but I have a mother who has sacrificed her whole life to see me and my siblings (inclusive of my foster brother) get the best education possible and get the best out of our lives.. I sure owe her everything..:)

Were you never afraid of the shadow when you were small? I was!

Wan Sharif said...

When I was small I was also afraid of shadow, but as we only have pelita Ayan most of the time, there is not much shadow I guess.. only darkness.. The presence of gasoline lamp (lampu spirit) in the dining area help.. without so much light we (children) have our ways to entertain ourselves :).
