Our Late Bilal..

His voice was not one of those that you would invite to grace your Karaoke session.

He was our madrasah’s bilal (muezzin)

Whose voice always reminds me of the story on Bilal bin Rabah

The famous muezzin and the Prophet’s friends.

One of the people of Madinah was not happy with Bilal Rabah’s voice..

“Not melodious and good to the ear” so it was said.

So he went and made the call for Fajr prayer(Azan) that particular day

Only to have Gabriel asking the Prophet why there isn’t any Azan that morning.

The melodious call of that man did not have the sincerity to reach Angels' hearing!.

Our bilal wakes us up in Taman Bukit Teratai every Fajr

I was blessed to hear and answer his call that particular day

When he collapsed on the floor after renewing his ablution that proceed a "sunat" prayer.

That evening saw most of us ..

Reciting Yasin and doing our tahlil

At our madrasah, for our bilal

How I missed his fajr call for prayer.

May you be blessed as Bilal bin Rabah has been blessed.. Haji Zainal.

Ayoh Wang gantilah tempat dia jadi bilal. Buleh ke? Alhamdulillah arwah Hj Zainal is remembered with fondness by many...and his sincerity in making the azan reached the ears of the angels....inshaAllah. The best way to remember him is to recite holy verses and sadaqah to arwah. That's what I'd do. purrr....meow!

Naz,

Azan berkumandang terus menerus adanya.

His life, voice and his presence were perhaps taken for ganted. Only a sudden emptiness brings home how much a person such as this meants to us. Alfathihah to him.

Abang Hassan,
I am afraid you are right.. his passing away led us to realise that he was more that a bilal, he prepared the place every morning and evening so that everyone can comfortably performed their prayer. I also found out that he was a keen and a good table tennis player who always stopped some 15 minutes before prayer time.. and I was informed that he played the game at the surau on his last evening..
May Allah count him as one of the Muqorrobin..

Hi Wan Sharif....I guess in our lives there will be such unfortunate experiences.
I'm sure he was a great man.
Best regards.
Lee.

Wan Sharif said...

Dearest Bro Lee,
He was not a great man by any worldly measures. The fact that he has been greatly missed by many friends indicates that he has been a good friend and a good man..
Have a great day Mr. Lee...

Alfatihah untuk allahyarham. Indeed a sincere voice is better than a beautiful melody.

Dear Oldstock,
Thank you for sharing your kind thought here.. Sincerity they say is the most difficult attribute to instill in our daily life..
